Gifts for Spirit, Mind, Body
Breathing
feeling air going in and out.
Running
the earth under my feet, sand, leaf mould, grass, chasing a ball.
Colors and movement
wind on water, shades of color in a lagoon,
bright green of grass,
plum blossoms on the wind,
my dog rolling in petals on the lawn.
The sky in Oklahoma
so wide it looks like a blue bowl upturned over us.
Grandma's farm
the sun burning off the early morning fog
as chickens cluck, birds sing, and flowers bloom
on midsummer's day.
Waterfalls and fountains,
a rocky brook that makes the water sing as it moves.
A newborn Jersey calf
unsteady legs, fawn coat, and big brown eyes.
Newborn Siamese cats
with the pink skin and rectangular face of the pink panther.
Later, after the dark fur comes in,
little boots kicking up, tails up as they run down the hall.
Reaching a goal
worked for, sweated for, despairing of ever getting.
And it's there, so suddenly it seems miraculous.
Avesbury
standing stones of power.
Waiting. Working.
Perhaps for life to continue
and all the things we love to be safe.
One more time.
