Death Cafe

A Death Cafe is a scheduled non-profit social gathering for the express purpose of frankly discussing death over food and drink, usually tea and cake. The goal of this group gathering is to educate and help others become more familiar with the end of life issues that all of us will encounter throughout our lives - whether it be witnessing/holding vigil for a loved one or friend, or preparing for our own eventual deaths.

The idea of the Death Cafe originated with Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz, who organized the first Café Mortel in 2004.

Participants will be urged to discuss their understanding, thoughts, dreams, fears and all other areas of death and dying at this event. We will also discuss the kind of documentation and work needed to be considered before death, in hopes that people will be better prepared and not so overwhelmed when dealing with the aftermath of the death of a loved one.
